To clear things up, a bad transom is not a common problem on this particular boat. It can be a common problem on ANY boat that is poorly cared for. A overheating engine is also not a common problem on this boat. It is a common problem on poorly cared for motors/outboards. I personally own a 1975 Steury center console with the original floors and transom. The boat in general is overbuilt, and built very well at that with directional woven hand laid fiberglass. The stringers do not meet the transom where the floor is. Typically rotting stringers are what rots the transom. This particular model is also glassed on both sides of the deck and floor design does not allow for water to hold where it should not. All boats should be inspected by someone familiar with boats regardless of initial quality. This particular model is excellent and will keep you dry in the Great Lakes no problem. It will also get you home in a squall with a self bailing deck.
