Have you check the impeller on the raw water pump? If it has "shattered", as mine did, the pump will not pull water in and the engine (luckily) cuts out on high temp or absence of cooling water. you'll need to replace it. When the impeller goes bad, the rubber "fingers" often get torn off and get sucked into hoses & the heat exchanger. If you're impeller is "fingerless", check all the water lines as well as blow out the heat exchanger from the back side after pulling the hoses and zinc.
