i purchased a herreshoff america this winter-------like you i never sailed a catboat yes there better off wind but the will beat into the wind at appoximatlly 60 degrees -------one needs to understand thier chartistics etc and how to sail them --i would suggest going to the catboat association annual meeting (if possible) alot of good information to be had on sailing a catboat -------please feel free to contact me at 1-860-564-7740 if i can be of any assistance--------i sail in narragansett bay lets talk soon john
