HA max motor size

I've got an older 4 stroke Honda 5 HP in my HA 18, would like to get larger 4 stroke but all current 8 HP motors appear to large for the well considering required clearance for the tiller. What size motors have other HA 18 owners been able to use? Are there any tricks to using a larger motor.
