Kevin looks like your are talking about the pintel. You might see stainless on small dinghy type rudders, however, with that barndoor rudder you have dragging through the water, I would stick with a nice beefy bronze one. Just had mine replaced this year, not very expensive and the original lasted some 36 years! However, are you referring to the grundgeon that is mounted ON your rudder or the pintel that is mounted TO the keel? Replacing the grudgeon on the rudder is more expensive because repairs to the plywood and fiberglass are usually required most of the time.
