Boat Reviews By Owners
1987 -- 16' 7" BOSTON WHALER
Cockpit: Cockpit easy to fish out of & use.
Visibility very good at standing position. Perfect for fishing (my primary use), scuba diving and snorkeling (Use it in the Keys for lobstering). Easy to store such gear.
Cabin: No cabin.
Construction: Foam hull makes it unsinkable, gelcoat is very well done, long-lasting & durable. Boston Whaler does an excellent job on their fiberglass finishing. Self-bailing feature of boat is very helpful and safe.
Handling: Extremely seaworthy.
The Montauk can be a little bumpy at times, but that is easily controlled with trim and tilt.
I've been caught in one very rough situation with this boat and it performed very well. (An inland storm developed & came across Florida's peninsula. Storm created 17' waves and 73 m.p.h. winds at Cortez -Longboat Pass.)
My Montauk got me back safely!
Whalers have earned their reputation!
The only boat I would own would be a Whaler (because of this experience).
Engine Room: 2003 Evinrude FICHT 90 H.P. outboard.
Very reliable, economical.
Second Evinrude on this boat.
General Comments: Fishing, trolling, snorkeling, scuba diving, visiting islands;easy to dock.
Performs well in deep or shallow water,
trolls very easily.
Coolers for the days' catch & food/drinks easily stored behind/next to two above-deck fuel tanks, fore and aft.
This boat is an all-around boat that can be used for many purposes.
