Boat Reviews By Owners
1988 -- 17' 0" SUNBIRD
Model: 17 CC
Cockpit: This boat's got the biggest feel of a 17' boat I have ever experienced. It is a stand-up boat where most other 17'ers have low gunwales and are sit-down boats. There is as much fishing room on this as you can get on a 17' boat.
Construction: This is a mostly solid boat. After 20 years the deck is soft in spots but is overall in good shape still.
Handling: With the original 88 horsepower this boat is pretty slow. Taking it easy on the old johnson, cruise is usually around or just shy of 20 kts. Wide open with one person and no fuel it'll hit 30 kts, but just barely. Aside from that, it's a sea-conquering monster. The deep vee eliminates pounding and the hull is drier than many many boats i've been on.
Engine Room: Original 1988 Johnson 88 special 2 stroke outboard.
General Comments: Overall, it's a great boat for the money, size and age.
