Boat Reviews By Owners

1969 -- 35' 9" Columbia

Model: C36

Cockpit: Large cockpit with seating for 8 adults. Visibility from helm is very good. The wife fishes off the stern most every time that we go sailing. Has a very large stern seating area.

Cabin: The only drawback for the cabin is that the height slopes to around 6' towards the bow. 6' 4" in the main salon. Great for cruising and ripe for customizations. These boats were built for the man/woman that was on more of a limited budget, but the quality did not suffer only the amenities.

Construction: These were tough boats. There were a few anomalies as in any boat, but the hull and deck are built well. She is a proven blue-water boat. The one I own did transpacs regularly. Leaking around the windows is one thing to look for.

Handling: She handles like a dream. Very fast sailing for her age. We have her repowered with a new Yanmar 30 and she will do 7.2 knots all day under motor power.

Engine Room: Yanmar 30. Originally an Atomic 4 or a Universal diesel.

General Comments: We currently use her for coastal cruising and going to Catalina Island - about 23 miles away. We have done 4-day trips on her lazily covering over 100 miles each time. Ours has 95 gallons of water in 2 tanks and 60 gallons diesel on 2 tanks.
