Boat Reviews By Owners

2000 -- 17' 0" Glastron

Model: SX 170

Cockpit: Boat has good room for a 17 footer. Two swivel bucket seats and a rear bench seat. The helm seat also has fore and aft adjustment. Visibility is good through the windshield. The boat is best suited for pulling water skiers, tubeing, and general cruising. Not best for fishing due to carpeted floor and white upholstery.

Cabin: There is no cabin. This is a bow rider style boat. There are two additional seats in the bow rider area. There is storage uder the bow rider seat cushions, under the rear bench seat cushions and along both sides. There is also a glove box. The boat has a sun top which connects directly to the top of the windshield and has straps to hold it in place. Comes in very handy on hot days. Will also prevent you from getting soaked in a heavy rain.

Construction: I have had this boat from new. The boat is now ten years old and is holding up pretty well. the vinyl looks good but the Glastron lettering came off the seats. The gel coat looks good when shined up. I have had to replace the steering cables and steering rack ($1000.00). I am on my fourth battery. I have replaced the prop three times. The gas air hose vent was never installed properly. When filling up the tank I had to trickel the gas in very slowly, otherwise it would spill out. I have had the hose replaced and it is fine now. In the areas where you normally do not see the fiberglass the fiberglass work is pretty rough. This boat was built before Glastron started the VEC process. I beleive those models built with the VEC process are better made. The boat shudders ocer rough water. The boat is best suited to a calm lake.

Handling: Boat handles ok. I would not turn to sharp however for fear of turning over. A stated earlier the boat is best suited for calm lakes.

Engine Room: Boat is powered by a 2000 115HP Johnson outboard. The only problem I have had with the motor was the carb which had to be replaced one time. It starts and runs good but is is very noisy and smokey. I guess most two strokes are.

General Comments: Overall the boat and motor have been good.
