Boat Reviews By Owners

1985 -- 26' 8" WELLCRAFT

Model: Starwind Sloop

Cockpit: 7' cockpit but with wheel and main sheet track in the cockpit space is limited to 4 persons comfortably... my 22 Starwind would handle 6 with ease

Cabin: Forward and aft berths also the dinette seat converts to a near queen size. Fridge is ice and holds well. Stove is alcohol and headroom very close to 6' with more than 6' in gally/hatch area

Construction: Fiberglass hull and deck. Lead balast in a shoal draft with an abbreviated wing. There are a couple of "soft" spots on the fore deck near the front of the cabin and will sometime have to rebuild the mast step as it is compressing which should indicate structural damage

Handling: She sails like a dream with little attention to the wheel necessary when running upwind. 15 knot winds will produce an easy 6.5 knots.. Yanmar 10hp consumes 1 quart an hour and moves the boat easily at 5-6 knots

Engine Room: Love the yanmar... simple enough to work on and a real miser when it comes to diesel... 1 qt per hour at 2300rpm

General Comments: Sail the gulf coast of Florida... normally inside the barrier islands. Mostly daysailing from 2-12 hours.. several overnights a year and normally at least one week long cruise
