Boat Reviews By Owners

2001 -- 23' 0" GLASTRON

Model: GS229

Cockpit: The cockpit is very user friendly. Bolster seats provide plenty of visibility. Instrumentation and gauges are laid out nicely. I would like to see more cup holders, however, with only 3 and none at helm.

Cabin: Cabin is very spacious for a cuddy of this size. Comfortable seats for relaxing out of the sun face each other immediately below. Nice sized v-berth provides plenty of room for long weekend sleeping with the lady. Porta pottie is also nice to have. Cabin could use more storage space, though.

Construction: Overall constuction seems pretty good. I only have 35 hours on the boat so I guess time will tell. I had a few electrical problems with the boat (nav light wasn't working properly, depth sounder quit working, etc.) but those have been fixed and havn't returned.

Handling: This boats main selling point is it's performance and handling. For being a 23' cuddy it handles better than most 18-20 bowriders and ski boats. I have the 5.7 Volvo (a must get option) and I can get out of the hole and on plane in the blink of an eye. I can hit about 52 mph with the boat fully loaded running an alluminum prop (soon to be upgraded). Skiing and tubing is a blast with this boat, and yet you can sleep on it comfortably. Truly the best of both worlds.

Engine Room: I have the Volvo Penta 5.7 @ about 250 HP. This motor is the best I've seen in any run-about or pocket cruiser of any make/size. The motor has practically taken care of itself. It is much smoother and quiter (especially in shifting) than the Mercury. The outdrive has their break away shaft coupling to protect your lower unit in case you run the prop on something. Research the Volvo if you're looking at a boat. You'll be happy you didn't buy a Mercury.

General Comments: Overall I really like my boat. It trailer's nicely and can be handled on the water and around the docks easily. I'm ready to trade up for their 25 or 27 foot model! Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to buy my boat so I can upgrade!!!
