Boat Reviews By Owners

1968 -- 31' 0" CHRIS CRAFT

Model: COMMANDER

Cockpit: The cockpit (w/ hardtop) allows shade without sacrificing visibility. A great fishing boat, while providing a great cruise.

Cabin: The cabin will sleep 6 (4 comfortably), and has all the necessities of a great "weekender". A stand-up head, electric stove, dorm-style refrigerator and plenty of room.

Construction: Chris Craft debuted their Commander line of fiberglass cruisers in 1964, with the 38'. Following the success of the 38', they constructed its little brother, the 27'. In 1966, they launched the 31' Commander, and it outsold all other models. Its affordability and luxury accomodations made it a winner from the start. Plus, it has the "classic" Chris Craft styling of well-known designer Dick Avery.

Handling: The 31' Commander, having been overbuilt, handles heavy seas very well, while maintaining an ease-of-use in less arduous conditions, too. Another great selling point for this fine vessel.

Engine Room: CONFERENCE has been re-powered in 1990 with INDMAR 351's, but came originally powered with Chevy/CC 327's.

General Comments: CONFERENCE is a boat that represents boat building at its best. Chris Craft had fine-tuned its wooden cruiser building techniques, and applied that same passion and attention to detail when it ventured into its first fiberglass cruisers, the Commanders. CONFERENCE has been upgraded with a 6.5 ONAN generator and a 16K BTU A/C system, making weekends even more pleasant. A great boat, capable of taking its owners anywhere and everywhere. If you wish to learn more about the Chris Craft Commanders, I encourage you to visit the Commander Club at www.commanderclub.com
