Boat Reviews By Owners

1996 -- 22' 8" STINGRAY

Model: 698zp

Cockpit: Nice layout. Almost everything in reach without moving. However... for a 65+ mph boat, this boat REALLY needs drop-bolster seats and a better throttle location. When standing the commander 3000 is uncomfortable at the bottom of the arc. Again, NEED drop- bolster seats. I can't emphasize this enough.

Cabin: Cabin is great. Plenty of length to stretch out. Adequate head room for a low-slung boat. Nice to have fresh water available. Needs a shower hose and head to attach to sink that will reach the transom. The wife and I spend a lot of nights on the water so we really know how she sleeps. Not bad for a small boat.

Construction: Boat is very well built. Nice gel-coat work and nothing shakes and shimmies, even running across 3 ft wakes at WOT. If it can break, I've pushed it. Nothing has broken.

Handling: The z-plane hull is awesome. You just have to drive one to know. This boat handles very, very well, even at high speeds with the drive trimmed high. I've made some very tight turns at 50+ mph trying to get her to break loose and walk but she holds very well. Takes wakes and rough water great for a 23' boat.

Engine Room: I'm running a slightly modified Mercruiser 7.4L 454ci, pushing about 330 HP. Going to build to 400+ HP over the winter. Lots of power, but hey, I'm a speed freak. I run a 23P Mirage Plus now, but want to re-prop to 26 or 27P so I need a little more power to push it. I want the boat to run true 75 mph and don't believe it will be a problem. Have thru-hull exhaust with Corsa quick & quiet silencers. Nothing sounds like a big-block with headers!

General Comments: Love the boat. Very fast, beautiful, and fun, fun, fun!
