Boat Reviews By Owners
1983 -- 30' 0" SPORT CRAFT
Model: 300 Fisherman
Cockpit: Great all weather fishing boat with flybridge (hardtop) and lower control station for cold nasty weather. Fishing deck is large enough for 6 fellows to work.
Cabin: Boat has head, icebox, sink, and v-berth. Enough for an overnighter - but not much more.
Construction: Engine stringers (twins) were left open on the back near the transom. This let bilge water into the stringers and rotted them out. An expensive repair !! Replacing all engine stringers and a rear bulkhead took either a fishing season to repair - or $10,000. I optioned for the fishing season and did the work myself.
Handling: Fast boat with twins. Tops out at 36+ MPH. Got almost 1.2 MPG at cruise (3000 rpm at 26-28 mph). Flat bottom with chines allows excellent drift fishing with minimum roll, as the boat lays in the trough.
Engine Room: Twin (fresh water cooled) 305 ci Volvo Penta (225 HP) with 270 I/O drives. Fast to get on plane and economical. After changing anodes to magnesium, the visible corrosion (seen w/zincs)was eliminated. Drives have lasted 20 years (Lake Erie) with no problems - except for annual cleanup and touchup.
General Comments: Used principally for fishing and day-trips to the islands. Can handle most weather that Lake Erie can produce.
