Boat Reviews By Owners
1977 -- 36' 8" TAYANA
Model: T-37 Cutter
Cockpit: Small cockpit, good for 3 people. Great ocean boat, kindly and seaworthy.
Cabin: Lovely teak interior, superb craftmanship. Many variations interior design. Our traditional interior has vee-berth, single quarter berth. Convert dinette to double. Galley small but efficient. Loads of storage
Construction: Heavily built, though leaks around chain plates. Irritating, not dangerous. Some with teak decks and wooden spars. Bowsprit is pretty, but a pain when anchoring. No major flaws.
Handling: Power: heavy, though steady. Backs up like "drunk elephant". Sail: fabulous in ocean. When fitted with proper sails, traveler, etc., balances nicely. 6 knots in 12 knots of wind. Staysail is outstanding in heavy weather. Easily handles 30-40 knots and big swells. Many others have circumnavigated.
Engine Room: Ours has Perkins 4-108. Adequate. 6.5 knots in flat water. 3-bladed prop.
General Comments: Love this boat for it's sailing ability, stability, solid construction, and esthetics. Very strong and surprisingly fast for a displacement. Good user's group (www.tognews.com or www.tayanaowners.org)
