Boat Reviews By Owners

2000 -- 17' 2" SEA HUNT

Model: 172 Triton

Cockpit: The cockpit is roomy for its size, but could use more seating beyond two behind the helm and 2 in front of the helm. Visibility is excellent - as it should be with a center console.

Cabin: N/A

Construction: For the money, I think the boat is a good value. Some stress cracks appeared immediately, but haven't moved in three years. Their size does not warrant losing my boat to a dealer for months. Electrical connections are very poor everywhere. Many of these were done at the dealer, but still no excuse.

Handling: I have the maximum horsepower on the boat (see below) and will admit that it handles great at cruising or top speeds. However, when the Chesapeake gets 2+ feet chop, the boat is best left on the trailer, unless you are going to creep or want your organs rearranged.

Engine Room: The boat is powered by a Johnson 130hp outboard. The engine has been bullet proof and makes the little boat a sleeper. Top speeds 55+ in small chop at 5800 rpm. I have caught many a boat offguard!

General Comments: In conclusion, I have enjoyed owning this boat the past three seasons. It is the perfect size for trailering -even when your fishing every day (like during Rockfish season). I also took it to the Florida Keys a few times to fish and snorkel and had a great time. Even though it's time for me to step up in size and quality, I am going to miss this boat and recommend it for what it is... a very nice boat when money is an object.
