Boat Reviews By Owners

1996 -- 34' 3" BAYLINER

Model: 3488 Avanti flybridge

Cockpit: The Cockpit is large enough to comfortably let four people bottom fish. Good visibility from both helm stations.

Cabin: The cabin has a forward master double berth, and a mid berth. Head has a walk in shower. Galley up design, with a galley better suited for easy to prepare meals than gourmet dining. Lower helm station is elevated with great visibility. It's nice to see a lower helm station that doesn't seem to be an afterthought. Only downside is that the cabinetry is typical mid 90's bayliner. Light Oak.

Construction: The boat is well constructed with no apparent design or material deficiencies noticed after a 1400 mile transit cruise home and a hard season of fishing.

Handling: This boat is built for speed and rough water handling capability. It has a very fine entry, a narrow beam at 11'0" and a 17 degree transom deadrise. She takes a head sea very well with a relativly dry ride and no tendancy to pound the hull. In a following sea she has enough power to keep up with the waves in even the largest seas normally encountered during fishing. You do have to be careful with the throttle though, because if you go too fast you'll launch her into the air. Fully loaded cruise is 26 knots, and the boat gets really sloppy below 20 knots. This boat really likes to be fully up on plane with very little bow angle, or putting along at full displacement speeds. Mileage at cruise is between .91 to 1.0 NMPG as measured with floscan 9000's. Engint RPM has less to do with mileage than sea state.

Engine Room: Our boat has twin 315 HP cummins diesels with vee drives. Can't think of a better engine for this boat. Engine access is tight between the engines but at least you don't have to take apart the salon for maintainence.

General Comments: As you can tell from our report we really like this boat. We use her for long range fishing in the gulf of Alaska. This is a GREAT northern climate boat because of the elevated lower helm and the elevated admrials settee just across from the helm station.
