Boat Reviews By Owners

1974 -- 26' 8" TOLLYCRAFT

Model: Sedan bridge

Cockpit: The cockpit is roughly 50 square feet and is completely open for fishing or deck furniture. The helm visibility is excellent from both the cabin and from the bridge.

Cabin: The cabin has 6' 4" headroom and is laid out nicely. It has enough room and berths for 2 couples for a weekend.

Construction: Tollycrafts are well known for thier quality. I agree. If you're looking at a 1978 or older have a survey done and pay attention to the side windows. They had some problems there.

Handling: The Tollycraft's handling is typical for a single shaft drive configuration. It swings to starboard in reverse. At almost 10000 pounds the boat handles waves very well but in a following sea it may want to breach if it gets really rough. Although it is a planing hull I think it is most comfortable at 8 mph. With the high cost of fuel these days I prefer travelling at displacement speed. I would say this is more a trawler style of boat than any other.

Engine Room: My particular boat has a single 7.4 mercruiser with a BW 1:1 straight shaft. The later models came with a V-drive and a 2:1 reduction which is supposedly more efficient but I cannot confirm that claim. My straight shaft will do just shy of 30 mph @ 4300 rpm. I haven't heard of a V-drive going any faster. The ease of maintenance and performance is great.

General Comments: This is a fantastic boat and I really like it. It's layout and features make it feel like a much bigger boat than it is. It is used mainly for recreation. We do a little fishing and I have a small charter business so it gets used regularly. I would definately recommend buying this model
