Boat Reviews By Owners

1989 -- 19' 6" WELLCRAFT

Model: 186 Eclipse

Cockpit: Comfortable cockpit for boat of it's size with wide 7' 10" beam. Seating for 6 with back to back seats, plus bow seating large enough for 2 adults. Coast Guard Rated for 7, but easily enough room for two families with young children.

Cabin: Loads of storage room under the front bow seats, as well as under the rear seats beside the engine compartment which raise and lower to become a nice size sun deck. Also space under the convertable seats and the ski locker.

Construction: Hey, its a Wellcraft! I passed up newer models with bigger HP to get a QUALITY boat. These things are just made better.

Handling: This is an inland boat, but I would feel comfortable taking it on protected harbors of any of the Great Lakes. It handles rougher water well, but it is still an open bow, so I don't feel it is suited for duty where land is not in site.

Engine Room: My boat has the 165HP Mercruiser 3.7 and the Alpha One Outdrive. It has mnore than enough power for its intended duties, but not enough to be a serious ski boat. I can do about 40 mph with a full tank of gas and four adults and gear, and have seen 47 mph on the GPS on smooth water, 1/2 tank of gas and two adults. Best of all I can run all day and on about 15 gallons of a 25 gallon tank. That is a big deal with gas over $2.00 on land and $2.50-$3.00 at the marina.

General Comments: Nice family boat, great for beginners or for those that don't intend to do competition skiing. Best part is that I can park it in my garage, as is only about 25' including the trailer.
