Boat Reviews By Owners
1988 -- 22' 0" SYLVAN
Cockpit: Boat is 22'x 7'8"beam rated to carry 10 persons but only as 4 chairs in cockpit. Lots of available storage in cockpit sideboards.
Cabin: Sitting headroom in cabin ,over length bunks with center filler cushions, huge storage areas beneath with center compartment for porta potty, large front windows fil cabin with light ,also sliding windows on sides for ventilation. Small 18" square cabin front deck hatch provides ventilation but is difficult to access front deck, should be larger.
Construction: Constructed of .100 thousandths rivited aluminum, top deck is covered with Nautolex vinyl, carpted wood floor , boat sides are very deep about 38", provides a lot of security.Continuous handrails surround cockpit.Twin battery space is confined .
Handling: 16 Seasons on Lake Michigan has proved this vessel to be durable with no hull problems and as you know this is a large body of water that can be quite changeable. I wouldn't attempt to cross the lake with her but for coasta use to about 5 miles out she has survived well since new, weather changes have surprised her but she has always made it home.
Engine Room: Engine is a 4 cylinder 3.7L 165 HP Mercruiser with a Alpha outdrive, 39 mph top speed running a 14 x 19 aluminum prop, boat planes off easily with no bow rise at about 15 mph.Boat is capable of staying on plane at very low engine speeds with Doel Fin stablizer and tucked outdrive, fuel milage and range is excellent with twin 20 gallon side tanks.
General Comments: I love this boat for ease of maintenance, and cheap overall operating costs, good speed for a four cylinder 22 foot boat. Good coho fishing boat and joy riding coastal cruiser. Not the best boat for heavy weather because of light weight but she will bring you home.Boat has a shallow draft so it can be run just about anywhere.
