Boat Reviews By Owners
1985 -- 39' 0" SEARAY
Model: 390 Express
Cockpit: Very comfortable and seats 10 to 12 adults with room to rome. Minimal bow lift makes forward visability great and captains seat is elevated and provides good 360 degree visability. I do not use for fishing but with the large cockpit I see no reason it would not be good. I would not carry 22 passengers on this boat as one of the other enterviewers states he has. No way that would be safe.
Cabin: Very roomy with the wide beam that allows movement without stepping over one another. Great for overnight trips with up to 4 adults two children. Storage is good but could use larger hanging lockers in both master and guest suites.
Construction: The 390 had a flaw in the 1984 through 1987 models in that the side windows leaked Not sure why it took Searay 4 years to solve this problem. Otherwise this is a very stable solid boat even after 20 years. The retracktable mirror that opens the guest suite to the salon is still a very nice feature in this design.
Handling: Handles rough seas very well. This model is a little tricky at idle speed when backing into a tight slip but with some seat time a good captain can adjust and handle it well.
Engine Room: Mine has the 350 horsepower Crusaders that has yet given any problem what so ever. Mine have 1500 hours and run very smooth and use no oil.
General Comments: I use this boat as a live a board on an inland lake in Tennessee. Most every weekend year round I take her out for a ride. To date she has never let me down and has been by far the best all around boat I have ever owned. This was a extremely good selling boat for Searay from 1984 through 1991 which means there are alot of them around that can make a boater on a budget a nice solid sport yacht he can be proud of.
