2000 -- 17' 0" CAPE HORN - FABBRO MARINE
Model: 17 CC
Cockpit: Great fishing boat. Used for race committee in small sailboat races - excellent for that purpose with four in-board rod holders and two in the gunnels. Had the optional cooler seat - expensive option, but worth it for the extra storage.
Construction: Well built - withstood bad weather very well. Deck-to-hull attachment never showed problems. Had minor spider-web cracks around the startboard in-board stern ss cleat. Needed to add some minor fittings like bow fairleads, but overall, components were good quality. Needed better electrical components, but such a basic boat that this was not an issue. Fuel-fill in a bad spot (low on side of CC) and caused spills every fill-up.
Handling: Handled wind and waves very well. Traditionally thought to be a very wet ride, but I found it to be average. Good freeboard, jumped to plane well, very responsive. Stock helm is better than average.
Engine Room: 2000 Mercury 115 - say what you want about Merc, but the 115 has always been a good motor to me. Powered the 17 very well, though it was rated up to a 140 HP. 40-gallon poly fuel tank nice feature.
General Comments: Very solid, extremely dependable, well-built, basic fishing boat or Sunday afternoon cruiser in the bayou or bay. Optional cushions and cooler seat well worth the expense. One of the roomiest 17 CCs out there.
