Boat Reviews By Owners
1988 -- 17' 6" HYDRA SPORTS
Model: Vector 1750 DC
Cockpit: Lots of cockpit space for a 17.5' boat. Excellent for fishing - high quality non-skid thru out. Self-bailing cockpit design - easy to clean - no carpet. Many rod holders. Lot's of storage space under consoles and bow hatches.
Cabin: No cabin. Dual console design really nice for upper Lake Huron - blocks more wind coming off the lake - much warmer than a center console - extends the boating season for the family.
Construction: Very well built - has many features found on bigger boats - hardware/deck has held up much better than same age Grady's I've seen. Solid welded bow rail. Thru bolted ss fittings. Very solid hatches/hinges. Nice factory canvas package.
Handling: Slightly underpowered with an Evinrude 90 HP. Was touchy to trim without porpoising. Added hydrofoil stabilizer - made a world of differnce.
Engine Room: Evinrude 90 hp VRO V4. Been very reliable - using Champion SS plugs and hotter plug wires than OMC stock. LOUD. THIRSTY. Got random warning horn signals (even wi engine not running) - marina wanted to replace VRO pump for $500 - said it was first step when this happens - just to be safe. Didn't buy a pump would generate warning sounds when not running - my son & I did our own troubleshtooting - found it was $75 sending unit in oil reservoir (circuit board doesn't like freeze thaw cycles from winter storage). Turns out marina was working same problem on antoher boat at same time - owner wasn't pleased that new VRO pump didn't fix it - sending unit did. They tried it after we came in and bought one and explained why - now that is our marina's first step.
General Comments: Great boat for going in and around the Les Cheneaux Islands. Great for bass fishing & water skiing. OK near shore in the big lake for salmon if you watch the weather and waves closely. Been a great boat - going up to either Robalo or Boston Whaler - still dual console.
