Boat Reviews By Owners

1999 -- 15' 2" KEY WEST

Model: 1520 EX

Cockpit: Given this boats 6'10" beam and side console, the amount of usable area in the cockpit is huge - for a boat this size.

Cabin: N/A

Construction: This boat is very well built. It is made of foam core fiberglass, there is no wood to rot or absorbe water. The boat is finished throughout, even inside storage lockers and inside the anchor locker.

Handling: She handles well and with a 50 hp Suzuki 4 stroke motor will reach crusing speeds of 25 kts with essentially no noise, vibration, smoke, and with low fuel usage. My boat has optional Bennett trim tabs which ensure that she "comes out of the hole" quickly and is always at optimum trim while running

Engine Room: 4 stroke, 50 hp Suzuki outboard. Good fuel economy, environmentally friendly and so quiet that I often pull up to a dock, startling people standing 10 feet away who inevitably say, "is that thing running?!"

General Comments: Very easily trailered and launched, I even tow it with my Corvette. We use the boat to explore inland, marsh and bay areas looking for wildlife to photograph. She has been to the Tennessee River, the South Carolina Coast (ACE Basin), the all up and down the Georgia coast, Floridas West and East coast, the Everglades, the Keys, the Homassa River, Alligator Alley Canal and more. She is perfect for navigating shallow creeks and marshes. The one downside - she is a wet boat once the wind and chop pickup -a very wet boat. She also has been known to take green water over the bow in conditions of steep, good sized waves. E.g., comming through Hillsboro Inlet with wind and waves opposite each other, a condition she clearly was not designed for. The good news, the two good sized cockpit scuppers emptied the water quickly.
