Boat Reviews By Owners

2005 -- 20' 4" COBIA

Model: 214CC

Cockpit: 20 footer that handles the ocean great. Visibility is great once you plane out. Great for fishing and family outing. Needs a better system for hooking up a towable or skier.

Cabin: No cabin, but has room for portapotty in console. Console should be just a little bit bigger for this.

Construction: For the most part, the hull seems to be built well, but the deck has had all sorts of problems. The gelcoat has literally just peeled away in a lot of places, revealing raw fiberglass, described to me as a bad layup job. Freshwater pump, bilge pump, livewell pump, tank mounts, and horn all went bad within a couple of months of getting the boat. The stereo died and I got a replacement. The replacement died 4 months later.

Handling: Handles great.

Engine Room: Yamaha 200hp 4-stroke. Plenty of power, but I wish I could have gotten a 250, which is the same block, but hull is not rated for it. Nice motor though.

General Comments: The boat handles nice and is a nice layout, however, the customer service stinks and a lot of things have gone wrong with the boat. The boat was out of service for a total of 9 weeks between marinas and the factory fixing problems all within the first year. My replacement stereo went bad and they told me it wasn't covered. Then I looked at the warranty on the website and it said 3 years for stereo. I called them and they changed their website the next day. My main grief is how much trouble they gave me in getting the gelcoat fixed on the deck. The service manager at the dealer told me it was the worst layup job he had seen and that I should demand a new boat. The boat eventually had to go back to the factory 3 hours away from me. They kept the boat for over 5 weeks.
