Boat Reviews By Owners

1999 -- 18' 0" FOUR WINNS

Model: Horizon 180

Cockpit: Good layout with long bench in back. Guages are VDO integrated, and this is a major weakness. The speedo quit two years ago, the trim gauge last year, and this year, they all died.

Cabin: Pull-out carpet is nice and I always leave it out. I think this feature should be in the higher end ski-wakeboard boats.

Construction: This is my first boat, but I've worked on many other vehicles. I think the quality of parts, electrical, and general assembly is mediocre. None of the electrical plugs are sealed, and screwed joints not flush, and poor choice of materials for weatherstripping and ducts. I've had multiple electrical corrosion issues around the junctions. The outdrive corroded and I found the factory installed anode was not in electrical contact with the casting (paint on casting isolated the head of the screw and anode... threads were in anode). Plus the outdrive is just painted, and apparently no conversion coating on the metal before coating. The penta paint is just an enamel, and not a good paint to use on aluminum. This boat was never in salt water either.

Handling: Good. The 4.3L is a good engine for this boat.

Engine Room:

General Comments: Is this poor assembly typical for most boats? This shortfalls in craftsmanship would never be accepted in even the most cheaply made automobile.
